Texan Runner Competes at State Cross Country Meet
November 8, 2021
Wimberley High School sophomore Madison Anderson competed at the 4A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, November 6 and finished 41st out of 152 runners. The race was hosted at Round Rock's Old Settler's Park. Anderson's 2-mile time was 12:28.6, a cross country personal best for her and more than a minute faster than the time she ran at last year's state meet as a freshman when she finished 77th overall. The 4A girls individual title was won by Melissa HS junior Abigail Bass in 11:07.2. The team title was won by Celina HS. (See complete results here.)
Anderson qualified for the state meet by finishing 11th at the 4A-Region IV meet hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on October 25th. The top 10 finishers not on an advancing team qualified for the state meet and Anderson was the 5th ranked individual not on an advancing team (see complete results here). Anderson's time of 12:35.14 over the 2-mile course was faster than three of the competitors that finished ahead of her at the district meet. Her time was also 12 seconds faster than she ran at the district meet in Bandera and 1:16 faster than her regional meet time a year ago. WHS senior Haley Hall also qualified for the regional meet, but did not finish the race.
The Wimberley cross country team is coached by head coach Lacey Lambert and assistant Brinton Nute.
