WHS Soccer Teams in the Playoffs; Girls Reach Regional Final

Both of the Wimberley High School girls' and boys' soccer teams advanced to the 4A playoffs after successful finishes in District 26-4A. The Lady Texans advanced to the regional final round of the playoffs after defeating Austin's IDEA Montopolis 7-1 in bi-district, Uvalde HS 3-2 in the area round, Fredericksburg 2-1 in the regional quarters, and London HS (Corpus Christi) in the regional semifinals. The Lady Texans lost to Corpus Christi Calallen 4-3 in the regional final. The boys' season came to an end versus Taylor HS 1-0 in bi-district.
The Lady Texans compiled a 24-6-2 record, including a 6-3-1 mark in district, which earned the team the number two seed. The team was led in scoring by sophomore Emily Thames (left), last season's District Co-Newcomer of the Year, with 34 goals, and Angelo State University signee Holly Harwood, who has 28 goals. Sophomore Izzy Frank has added 14 goals and freshman Izzy Franchione has chipped in 13. Leading the defensive efforts is sophomore goalkeeper Claire Valentine who recorded 50 saves in the regular season. The team is coached by Brinton Nute.
The boys team qualified for the playoffs by finishing third in District 26-4A with a 5-4-1 record. They finished their season with an overall record of 13-7-2. The leading goal scorers on the season were junior Jack Bruner with 13 and senior Tristan Auden with 11. Freshman Nick Dunn led the way with nine assists and Auden had eight. The team was captained by juniors Connor Collier and Lucas Craig and coached by Ramez Antoun. The future looks bright as the squad loses only one senior (Auden) from the roster.
