WISD Students Encouraged to Participate in "The Big Serve" on MLK, Jr. Day - Monday, Jan. 18
January 13, 2021
WISD students and their families are being encouraged to get involved with the “Big Serve,” Wimberley Valley’s day of service to the community, that will occur on Monday, January 18.
The Big Serve first happened in 2008 and was the idea of current WISD Board of Trustees member Rob Campbell. The event was organized by members of the local church community and focused on beautification and community service projects at WISD campuses. The 2021 version of the Big Serve will be transformed to allow for health and safety guidelines brought about by the COVID pandemic.
WISD students and staff (who have the day off of school on January 18 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day) and their families are encouraged to embrace the legacy of MLK Jr. and seek out their own service projects to take part in on the day of the Big Serve. Participants are encouraged to consider service projects that benefit neighbors who live in close proximity. If you need help finding a project, please contact any local church or the Barnabas Connection or (512) 842-9674.
There is no official sign-up for the Big Serve, but participants are requested to submit photos of their activities to the WISD Communications Officer at allen.bruggman@wimberleyisd.net. The photos will be displayed on the WISD website the following week.
Thank you for embracing the opportunity to help your Wimberley Valley neighbor and strengthen our community through your service during the Big Serve! Questions about the Big Serve can be directed to trustee Rob Campbell at rob.campbell@wimberleyisd.net or 512.754.4985. Look for forthcoming communication regarding the Big Serve from your child's campus later this week.
