Dwain York, Superintendent of Schools

All of us at Wimberley ISD are looking forward to the holiday season. Like all of you, we are ready to relax and enjoy the many festivities that are part of this time of year. I’m sure our students who have been working hard in class, in extra-curricular activities and in sports are looking forward to a well-deserved break. We are grateful to have some awesome accomplishments to show for their enthusiastic attitude and goal-oriented focus this fall.

The Wimberley High School Speech & Debate team is amassing wins at each competition, positioning themselves for the State contest. The Texan football team is beginning Thanksgiving break this Friday against the Raymondville Bearkats in the second round of play-offs. The theatre department has set their fall show for December 5, a true showcase of months and sometimes years of preparation and rehearsing. The Tennis team won Regional Quarter Finalist and the Cross Country team had two state qualifiers, Ashlyn Royal placed 15th and Griffin Neal placed 20th.  The Texan Band earned straight first ratings at the District Marching Contest—the highest scores possible.

Our communications department recently shared a story and images showcasing our bouncing, bright and bubbly pre-k students whose success is showing up in their early mastery of Kindergarten skills. Our bond projects are moving along with the newly named Blue Hole Primary School on schedule to open in fall 2020, the Ag Barn is officially open and the Danforth Junior High renovation continues at a good pace.

This holiday season, we are grateful for WISD parents, students and teachers for showing up every day to focus on the District mission of achieving excellence in education. We are also thankful for WISD students’ commitment to “Respect for ALL OF US,” a District-wide initiative to foster unity and inclusiveness at all campuses.

Please remember that we have early release tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 6 at 12 noon. For specific campus information, visit wimberleyisd.net/EarlyDismissal.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and all of us here, we wish you a joyous holiday season.
