• Special Education :  Child Find Notice

Wimberley Independent School District is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating children from birth through age 21 with known or suspected disabilities who reside in and/or attend school within the school district’s boundaries to determine whether a need for special education and related services exists. Child Find includes children who attend private or home schools within the district’s boundaries regardless of place of residence.

The WISD Special Education office accepts child find referrals and evaluates children who may have a disability. This assessment is provided at no cost to the parent. A referral may be made by a parent or by any person concerned about a child. Parent involvement is obtained prior to any further action. Information is confidential and the privacy of the children and family is protected.

The district may be able to assist by providing:

      • assessments in the areas of communication, motor development, vision, hearing and preschool readiness skills,
      • assistance in determining whether a child with a disability needs specially designed instruction provided by special education services,
      • information about programs available in the community for children with special needs.

A student may have a disabling condition, yet be ineligible for special education services due to the absence of a need for specially designed instruction. Generally, if a student is achieving satisfactory progress in the general educational program and environment, there is not a need for special education. However, if you have specific questions about your child, you should contact your student's school counselor or the Special Education Department.

A child may have a disabling condition and a need for accommodations to allow their student to have equal access to the school environment. These students may be eligible for a plan under Section 504.

If you have questions about Special Education or Section 504 services, please contact:
